Who is responsible for your information

This website is run by Clive Vanderwagen, trading through ReadyPeople Training & Coaching Consultancy, Cape Town, South Africa. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), I am the responsible party and the Information Officer.

What I collect

When you send the contact form: your name, organisation, email address, phone number, the service you're interested in and your message. You choose what to share, and only your name, email and message are required.

When you browse the site: I use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It records things like the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, roughly which city or country you're in, and which links you click, such as the button to book a call. It uses cookies to do this. Google Analytics doesn't give me your name or email address, and it doesn't store your full IP address.

When you book a discovery call: the booking happens on Calendly, which collects the details you enter there under its own privacy policy. Links to Amazon, YouTube and LinkedIn take you to those sites, which have their own policies.

I don't collect special personal information, such as health or religious information, through this site, and the site isn't intended for children.

Why I use it

I use contact form details only to reply to your enquiry and, if we go on to work together, to arrange that work. I use analytics information to see which pages and articles are useful and to improve the site. I don't sell your information, and I won't add you to a mailing list without your permission.

I process contact details because you've chosen to send them to me, and analytics information because I have a legitimate interest in running a website that works well.

Who else handles it

A small number of service providers process information on my behalf. Netlify hosts this website and receives contact form submissions. Google provides Google Analytics. Calendly handles call bookings. These providers store data on servers outside South Africa, including in the United States and Europe. Each has its own data protection commitments, and I only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA.

I'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it.

How long I keep it

I keep enquiries for as long as I need them to respond and follow up, and for no more than two years if we don't work together. If you become a client, I keep records for as long as required for business, tax and legal purposes. Google Analytics data is deleted automatically after 14 months.

Cookies

The only cookies this site sets are Google Analytics cookies, which measure how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works normally without them.

Your rights

Under POPIA you can ask me to tell you what personal information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can also object to how it's being used. Email me and I'll respond within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za. I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Security

The site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and access to enquiries is limited to me. No system is completely secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this notice

If I change how I handle personal information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
